HVAC Spring Cleaning - Prep for this Summer!

Spring Cleaning and prepping for summer is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your HVAC systems here in South Florida.

Today’s discussion will cover a few main points and what to do to get your HVAC units ready before the summer hits.

  • Check the filter

  • Maintain the Compressor and Coil

  • Calibrate the Thermostat

  • Clear out Supply Vents

  • Schedule a system Maintenance

Check the filter:

Filters trap airborne pollutants, stopping them from making their way around your home; this is why it is crucial to regularly check your filters since they protect you and your HVAC system from debris and dust. Typically, you should change your filter every 30 days, but it depends on your situation. Examples are if you live in an area with a lot of dust and pollen or if you have pets in the home.

Maintain the Compressor and Coil:

A dirty coil can impact the efficiency of the unit and can raise costs when not maintained properly. When your air conditioning unit is not cleaned or maintained, it places an extra load on the system and may cause it not to work correctly or shorten its lifespan; this is why it is paramount if you see any debris, dirt, leaves, or anything else around the outdoor unit, clean them out as soon as possible to ensure the area around the air conditioning coil is clean and free of debris. Be sure to keep the area around the air conditioning coils and evaporator clean to prevent an accumulation of debris that may damage the unit. Keeping the unit, the compressor, and the coils clean regularly, even if placed indoors, is crucial.

Calibrate the Thermostat:

We often don’t consider the role that the Thermostat can play in our HVAC units. Ignoring a broken thermostat can lead to your system not working efficiently. Your thermostat may have difficulties reading the temp in the home and may fail to turn on when you require it the most. With the summer approaching and high temperatures nearing quickly, we advise favorably that a professional technician check and or repair the thermostat and ensure that it is calibrated appropriately for proper use.

Clear out Supply Vents:

Like filters, your registers and vents may become clogged or dirty. During your thorough spring cleaning,  include the supply vents to remove dust or pet hair from the vents. You may vacuum them to remove any dirt, debris, or hair particles. This is also a great time to consider having your ducts cleaned, to provide better airflow and increase the quality of the air indoors.

Schedule a system Maintenance:

Although there are plenty of things you can do to help you prepare your system for the summer, nothing is quite better than having a trained expert do a thorough job to ensure your system is running smoothly. Any certified HVAC technician will be able to go through the entire system, including electrical connections, levels, wiring, and much more. Now is a perfect time to schedule an appointment with Air-Tech HVAC Corp to ensure your system is working properly for the summer.
